The Big Cook Up and Kapoor's Kitchen

On Thursday 21st June, Kapoor's Kitchen cooked for the Freedom from Torture's 'The Big Cook Up'. Here Vish Kapoor, one half of Kapoor's Kitchen, writes about the event.

It was an extremely fulfilling experience where everyone came together to show their support towards an important global issue that ruins the lives of many vulnerable people. It was an honour to be invited to cook for this event and is a memory we shall always cherish.

We had the privilege of cooking alongside the highly acclaimed and award winning chef Paul Merrett, and his hand picked selection of top chefs, including Cyrus Todiwala OBE DL, Satyajit Welaratne and Andrew Fernandez Cardellach, who all made some excellent dishes. Kapoor's Kitchen cooked a very traditional chickpea curry, made exactly how it is done in the suburbs of northern India.

The good people at The Big Cook up all had a small plate of our chickpea curry garnished with fresh coriander and the feedback was astonishing. Within just a couple of hours, two large pans of our authentic chick pea curry was being enjoyed by a room full of charitable and generous individuals, which was a huge compliment to us.

The feedback was far beyond our expectations and it was a pleasure to meet everyone and talk to them about our cooking. People seemed to enjoy tasting one of Kapoor's Kitchen's trademark dishes, which was a wonderful thing to hear and we can only hope it has inspired them to try making it themselves.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the lovely Marika Chaplais who gave us this amazing opportunity, and also to give a huge well done to Freedom from Torture for doing so brilliantly in supporting such a necessary cause.
