Freedom from Torture - The Survivor Newsletter - Spring 2019

The Survivor Newsletter - Spring 2019

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. For many survivors of torture, this can be a lonely and uncomfortable time. That is why I want to say thank you to all those that donated to our Christmas Appeal (page 3). Your messages of care and compassion, and your donated Christmas Care Boxes, were so important. Thank you so much for sharing Christmas with a survivor of torture.

One of my colleagues repeated what a survivor had said to her, “I was depressed, traumatised and felt I had no importance and no one cared about me. But I then got the Christmas gift, with all the lovely things inside. I got it with the smile of my therapist. It warmed my heart.”

Unfortunately, there are still many more people that need your help. Our recent report on torture in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) highlights how crucial your support is (pages 6-7). As torture continues to happen around the world.
