Great Street Feast nominated for Third Sector Excellence Award
The 2016 edition of Freedom from Torture’s Great Street Feast has been nominated in the Best Fundraising Event category at this year’s Third Sector Excellence Awards.
Raising more than £100,000, the Great Street Feast saw 230 of our supporters enjoy gourmet street food from leading chefs Paul Merrett, Anton Manganaro, Atul Kochhar, Dan Doherty, Tong Chee Hwee and William Curley.
Members of Bread for Life, our baking therapy group, made traditional breads and pastries, dips and chutneys for supporters, showing the positive impact that cooking together has for the rehabilitation of torture survivors, and offering the opportunity for supporters and clients to share food together.
Our small events and fundraising team worked exceptionally hard to deliver this memorable and successful event, not only organising the Street Feast itself, but overseeing a live auction, a grand raffle, cookbook sales and donations as well. It’s great to see the achievements of our staff and volunteers, alongside the work of Bread for Life and the generosity of our supporters, acclaimed by the Third Sector Excellence Awards.
The Great Street Feast has been recognised as a bridge for clients and supporters to come together, laugh, and share food in a really special and empowering way; two lucky auction bidders even got to spend an afternoon baking with the Bread for Life group.
Following its impressive first year, the Great Street Feast has now become a regular fixture in the Freedom from Torture calendar, with another hugely successful event held in June 2017. Meanwhile, the Third Sector Excellence award ceremony takes place on 21st September: we await the announcement of the winner with bated breath!
