Steve Crawshaw appointed Director of Policy and Advocacy at Freedom from Torture

Freedom from Torture has announced Steve Crawshaw as its new Director of Policy and Advocacy.

He has previously worked as London Director and UN advocacy director of Human Rights Watch. For the past eight years he worked at Amnesty International where he directed Amnesty’s international advocacy programme and later the office of the Secretary-General.

Steve Crawshaw says:

"I am very proud to have been appointed Director of Policy and Advocacy at this truly amazing organisation. I am determined to ensure that the voices of torture survivors can, must and will be heard, not just at the community level but in the corridors of power."

Freedom from Torture Chief Executive, Sonya Sceats, says:

"I am delighted to have Steve Crawshaw at Freedom from Torture. Steve is a hugely respected and experienced advocacy and communications expert in the human rights field, having worked as a journalist, author and directing and developing successful advocacy programmes for human rights organisations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

His participation in our senior management team will be vital in helping Freedom from Torture shape UK policy on issues of asylum and support for torture survivors and in upholding the international torture ban."
