Cadogan Hall, 5 Sloane Terrace, London SW1X 9DQ
Programme
- Berlioz Roman Carnival Overture
- Schumann Konzertstück for Four Horns and Orchestra
- Sibelius Symphony No. 2
The Doctors’ Orchestra returns for its 15th year to Cadogan Hall to play another concert supporting Freedom from Torture. Conductor Stephen Brearley will once again bring together a unique ensemble of 75 musically gifted doctors to play in aid of Freedom from Torture.
The Doctors’ Orchestra is joined by four stellar horn soloists drawn from London’s top orchestras to play Schumann’s rarely heard but thrilling Konzertstück. Schumann exploited the possibilities of the newly introduced valve horn to the full in this unusual piece, writing music which challenges the very best players to this day and creates a splendid effect.
The funds raised from this concert will allow Freedom from Torture to provide psychological support and group therapy in areas such as music and art, as well as offering vital legal and welfare aid.
By attending this concert, you will be making a real difference to the lives of torture survivors, whilst enjoying a breathtaking evening of classical music.
