The Railway Man at Alnwick Playhouse
The Railway Man directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman is an adaptation of the 1995 autobiography of the same name by Eric Lomax, a former British Army officer, who was tortured as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labor camp during World War II. Lomax discovers that the man responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him.
Eric Lomax was a client of Freedom from Torture in the 1980s and later became a patron until his death at the age of 93. He said : “My turning point came in 1987, when I came across the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture (now Freedom from Torture). For the first time, I was able to unload the hate that had become my prison.”
The evening is hosted by Freedom from Torture's Nort East England group and there will be an opportunity to learn about FFT's work. Further information from Helen Coyne 016655 830621 or e-mail Helen at [email protected]
