Fight against torture

No one should experience torture. It is the most terrible abuse of power towards a defenceless person, a violation of their human rights and dignity.

It’s still happening

The truth is that torture still exists - it's happening across the world right now. Perpetrators use torture as a tool to silence activists, suppress movements and destroy people. Survivors of these unforgivable horrors deserve safety, our compassion, and the support they need to recover.

We believe that people who have survived torture - who flee to the UK for safety - deserve our compassion and support to recover. They need to heal, to feel safe and strong again, and be able to rebuild their lives. And yet, survivors are faced with the UK's hostile asylum system.

We believe survivors deserve our compassion.

Help provide the care survivors need

People who have survived torture experience ongoing trauma for years. Freedom from Torture exists to offer a welcome environment, and hope for a better future.

Our clinicians work tirelessly with survivors, like Inara, to rebuild their physical and mental health. Our doctors document evidence of torture. Our lawyers and welfare advisors help survivors with their asylum cases and living conditions.

Navigating the UK asylum system can be incredibly challenging, for people like Inara. And facing the hostile environment and recent the far-right riots can exacerbate their trauma - leading to physical pain, problems with sleeping, flashbacks and panic attacks sparked by sounds or darkness.

Every week we are forced to turn away 12 people like Inara.

Christmas is a particularly difficult time for survivors, as they are cut-off from loved ones that they were forced to leave behind. Too many survivors are stuck on waiting lists for our life-changing therapy – every week we are forced to turn away 12 people like Inara. Without more funds, we simply can’t help more people. A gift will get survivors like Inara into the therapy room, when they need us most.

Together, we can help survivors rebuild their lives and create a world where torture is no longer a reality. Your voice, your actions, and your donations can bring hope and healing to those who need it most.
