We're supporting the Global Climate Strike: read our statement

Climate justice is a human rights issue. The adverse impacts of climate change directly and indirectly threaten the full and effective enjoyment of a range of human rights by people throughout the world.

Climate justice is also an issue that will increasingly bring people into contact with state authorities, as concerned citizens demand state and corporate action to counter an overwhelming global threat.

Increasingly, the efforts of defenders of lands and territories and environmental defenders across the globe who are protesting harmful environmental practices and policies are being met by a forceful response by state and corporate authorities determined to prioritise economic profit over human rights.

As an organisation committed to combatting torture and upholding the rights of people to live free from torture, we support actions to demand climate justice in solidarity with environmental defenders worldwide whose actions benefit us all but whose courage places them at risk of torture or worse.
